Brooke White’s yet again steals show on “American Idol.”

If stealing a show were a crime, Brooke White would have been hauled off the “American Idol” stage in handcuffs long ago. Her performance of “Every Breath You Take” was the best on tonight’s show. She is my choice to win the competition.

David Archuleta, Michael Johns, Carly Smithson and Syesha Mercado may pull off an upset. Jason Castro, Ramielle Malubay, and Chikezie should be voted off. Kristy Lee Cook should have been voted off weeks ago. Amanda Overmyer was far more deserving. I can take or leave David Cook.

Tonight, though, Cook gave a stunning performance of “Billy Jean.” He can give White a serious run for her money.

Amanda Overmyer unfortunately gets booted from “American Idol”

The rock-n-roll nurse is gone. America booted Amanda Overmyer and kept the talentless but hot Kristy Lee Cook on tonight’s “American Idol.” Where is the justice?

Still, the bottom three wasn’t a surprise. Rock chicks Overmyer and Carly Smithson are too hard-edged to be the next American  Idol talented as they may be.  The voters are looking for the girl next door — Brooke White —   not a girl who can drink them under the table. or beat them in arm wrestling

Tonight’s show was tortuous.  Idiotic phone calls, Idol Gives Back and Kellie Pickler padded the show out so it could stretch out 10 minutes of original content into a half hour.

American Idol milk The Beatles again

Sometimes, too much of a good thing isn’t good. Tonight’s second Beatles theme night on “American Idol” is a case in point. Maybe the show’s producers are running out of ideas. Maybe the Beatles were getting some sort of divine payback for all of that sex and drugs. Maybe Michael Jackson needed the money.

Whatever the reasons, the results were mostly forgettable.

Amanda Overmyer did a decent version of “Back in the USSR.” She has the right attitude and shouldn’t sing “boring” ballads even if Simon Cowell thinks she should. Kristy Lee Cook, who apparently never heard of the band, had her best performance with “You Can’t Hide Your Love Away” though she still sounded like a robot. She deserves to be booted as soon as possible. David Archuleta did a great job with “Long and Winding Road”, rebounding from last week’s disaster. Michael Johns, the best looking guy on the show, did a mediocre condensed version of “A Day in the Life.” He’s been sputtering for weeks and may be on the way out. Brooke White is by far the most talented contest. She did a great version of “Here comes the sun.” I totally disagree with the judges who hated it. She should have stuck up for herself. David Cook scored with an inventive arrangement of “Daytripper.” He is starting to grow on me and could go far in the competition. I didn’t see the smugness that Simon mentioned.  Carly Smithson’s performance of “Blackbird” was my favorite of the night. I didn’t get how Simon considered it indulgent. Jason Castro did okay with “Michelle” and Syesha Mercado did a pretty good version of “Yesterday.” Chikezie did a great job last week. He tried to do the same country approach with “I’ve just seen a face” and fell flat. Ramiele Malubay ended the show with a cabaret-like performance of “I should  have known better.” She’s another one who should be voted off the show.

Brooke White’s “Let it Be” steals show on “American Idol.”

Brooke White struck gold again. On tonight’s Beatles-themed “American Idol” program, the barefoot girl next door managed to bring a freshness and honesty to “Let it Be”, one of the most covered pop songs in history, that showed why she is the contest to beat in this season’s competition.

My wife asked me whether she really is that sweet. I think White is the real deal or one of the best actresses this side of Meryl Streep. Carly Smithson did a nice version of “Come Together” which should let her stay around the competition. It wasn’t in the same league as White’s.  David Archuleta, who has lead the guys so far, who did a funky of “We can work it out” which I liked better than the judges. He is so likeable that I bet that America will forgive his misstep.

My fears that tonight’s show would cause the ghosts of John Lennon and George Harrison to unleash their vengeance on the mortal world were misplaced for the most part.

Chikezie’s version of “She’s a Woman” was one of the most creative arrangements on “American Idol” I can remember. Unfortunately, he lacks the charisma to last much longer in the competition. He said he was surprised that the dreadful Danny Noriega was voted off and not him.  I liked Amanda Overmyer’s rocked-out version of “You Can’t Do That” because for once she seemed liked she was having fun. Michael Johns, who has been disappointing lately, did a pretty good version of “Across the Universe.” He better start taking some risks or else his days may be numbered. Syesha Mercado was okay as was David Cook.

David Hernandez, who didn’t mention his gig as a nude dancer in the biographical video, did a version of “I saw her standing there” that would have been booed on most cruise ships.  This guy even took a class on the Beatles.  He may be in danger of getting booted.

Also in danger of being sent packing is the Philipina Pixie Ramiele Malubay bored the audience to tears with her version of “In My Life.”  Kristy Lee Cook may get bounced for her horrendous rendition of “Eight Days a Week” which Simon Cowell  accurately described as being like “Dolly Parton on helium.”

Ding Dong Danny Noriega is gone from “American Idol”

The drama of the top 12 played as expected on tonight’s “American Idol.” The pleasant surprise was that the horrible Danny Noriega was booted.

Noriega’s personality grated on America like nails on a chalkboard. The rest of the departures –Kady Malloy, Asia’h Epperson and Luke Menard — were the weakest of the bunch.

Now it’s a real crap shoot. Chikezie, Kristy Lee Cook, Syesha Mercado and Michael Johns are on the bubble. I’m surprised that David Hernandez and Amanda Overmyer are still in the competition. David Archuleta and Brooke White remain the ones to beat. They have been the most consistent of any of the contestants.

Amanda Overmyer, Brooke White steal show on “American Idol”

Amanda Overmyer, my favorite biker chick with a checkered past, scored big tonight on “American Idol” with a fantastic rendition of Joan Jett’s “I hate myself for loving you.” Sweetie Brooke White’s version of Pat Benatar’s “Love is a Battlefield” was stupendous. The rest of the women were just okay.
Overmyer ditched the Cruella de Vil look and actually appeared to be the 23-year-old the show’s Web site says she is. Maybe she’ll last until the next round.  It was nice to see that the Rock `N’ Roll nurse wasn’t letting the tabloid scandals get her down. Overmyer, though, is too raw to be the next Idol which is why I like her.

White now is the girl to beat. She is one of the few Idols who can take iconic songs and make them her own. Moreover, America will eat up this girl next door from Mesa, Ariz. because she is so genuinely sweet.

Was it just me or was Paul Abdul even more incoherent than usual?

Asia’h Epperson and Kady Malloy deserve to be booted.

Amanda Overmyer’s notoriety will help not hurt her career

Amanda Overmyer still is awesome even if she has a string of DUI arrests and reportedly posed for naughty pictures no doubt when sober.

From The National Enquirer:

American Idol’s rock ‘n’ roll nurse Amanda Overmyer has hit a pothole on the road to stardom: The ENQUIRER has learned that she has spent time behind bars for DUI and has a long list of driving offenses, including one for going more than 100 mph.

Amanda’s shocking driving record — six speeding violations, including one for going 100 mph in a 45 mph zone and another violation for running a red light — culminated in her arrest for drunk driving while speeding at 3:18 a.m. on Oct. 14, 2006.

I am going to bet that the Enquirer will be one of the bidders. The tabloid is wrong. This isn’t a potential roadblock. It’s a huge boost. People can know for sure that the biker chick look is no act. To be sure, those pictures won’t be pretty but rock `n’ roll often is ugly.
Regardless, she has a great authentic voice. America, though, isn’t ready for this Idol.

“American Idol” guys made show live up to hype

The “American Idol” guys must be passing around K-Tel’s Super Lame Hits of the 1980s.  I don’t know how else to explain tonight’s weird song choices. Many, though, as the judges say “made it their own.”

Wham! is not worth remembering under any circumstances. Luke Menard’s butchering of “Wake me up before you go go” will give the song the burial it deserves in popular culture and will send him packing from the competition. Danny Noriega massacred “Tainted Love”, one of the few great songs of the night. The Soft Cell original is one of my favorite songs of the decade. The remarkable David Archuleta made Phil Collins’ puerile “Another Day in Paradise” tolerable.  Michael Johns’ rendition of “Don’t You Forget (About Me)” was passable. It won’t make anyone forget about the Simple Minds original, try as they might. David Cook’s rocked-out version of Lionel Ritchie’s “Hello” was unique but weird. It grew on me. David Hernandez did a pretty good version of Meatloaf’s “It’s all coming back to me” as well.

Jason Castro’s version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” was one of the highlights.  Chikezie did a great job with Luther Van Dross’ “All the Woman I Need.”

America kicked off the right people from “American Idol.”

Jason Yeager, Robbie Carrico, Alexandrea Lushington and Alaina Whitaker were voted off “American Idol” tonight, proving that sometimes democracy works.

The competition is tougher this year because there is no one glaringly awful like Sanjaya Malakar. Danny Noriega sort of fills the Sanjaya role but he is more talented though equally annoying.   Brooke White and David Archueleta are currently leading the contest.  Michael Johns, and David Hernandez are still in the hunt for the guys.  Syesha Mercado, Asia’h Epperson, Carly Smithson and Kristy Lee Cook could pull out a victory for the girls.   My dark horse pick for the girls is the adorable Ramiele Maluby and Chikiezie for the guys

I can’t wait to see how the Idols butcher the Beatles.

Sweet Brooke White, Sassy Amanda Overmyer Stand Out on “American Idol”

Via ThehollywoodgossipVia Thehollywoodgossip Sweet Brooke White and sassy Amanda Overmyer gave the two most memorable performances on tonight’s broadcast of “American Idol.” The rest of the contestants made their marks through some weird song choices..

Brooke White’s spectacular rendition of Carly Simon’s “Your So Vain” blew me away. Even though Overmyer’s hair was horrendous, I thought she did a good job with “Carry On My Wayward Son” by Kansas. Her performance last week was better but she deserves to come back for more next week. Even on an off night, Overmyer is twice as talented as the rest of the Idol women. Can’t Danny Noriega give her some style advice?

Alexandra Lushington should have her head examined for singing anything by Chicago especially the horrendous “If You Leave Me Now.” Kady Malloy slept walked through “Magic Man” by Heart. That girl is destined to be one of the legends performing in Las Vegas because she sings like other people so well.

Kristy Lee Cook’s version of Simon’s “You’re No Good” was adequate but hardly in the same league as White. Maybe she’ll do better next week if she takes Simon Cowell’s advice and moves into the country genre. Carly Smithson’s “Crazy on You” was pretty lame. Smithson fakes being a rocker chick. Harley-riding Overmyer is the real deal. What the hell was Alaina Whitaker thinking by singing “Hopelessly Devoted to You?” Olivia Newton-John wasn’t cool in the 1970s. Equally daft was Syesha Mercado’s decision to change the lyrics of “Me and Mrs. Jones.” Asia’h Epperson muddled through “All By Myself” by the now largely forgotten Eric Carmen. Ramiele Malubay’s version of “Don’t Treat Me This Way” was okay

None of the performances was as good as David Archuleta’s rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine.” He remains the one to beat.
