Via Thehollywoodgossip Sweet Brooke White and sassy Amanda Overmyer gave the two most memorable performances on tonight’s broadcast of “American Idol.” The rest of the contestants made their marks through some weird song choices..
Brooke White’s spectacular rendition of Carly Simon’s “Your So Vain” blew me away. Even though Overmyer’s hair was horrendous, I thought she did a good job with “Carry On My Wayward Son” by Kansas. Her performance last week was better but she deserves to come back for more next week. Even on an off night, Overmyer is twice as talented as the rest of the Idol women. Can’t Danny Noriega give her some style advice?
Alexandra Lushington should have her head examined for singing anything by Chicago especially the horrendous “If You Leave Me Now.” Kady Malloy slept walked through “Magic Man” by Heart. That girl is destined to be one of the legends performing in Las Vegas because she sings like other people so well.
Kristy Lee Cook’s version of Simon’s “You’re No Good” was adequate but hardly in the same league as White. Maybe she’ll do better next week if she takes Simon Cowell’s advice and moves into the country genre. Carly Smithson’s “Crazy on You” was pretty lame. Smithson fakes being a rocker chick. Harley-riding Overmyer is the real deal. What the hell was Alaina Whitaker thinking by singing “Hopelessly Devoted to You?” Olivia Newton-John wasn’t cool in the 1970s. Equally daft was Syesha Mercado’s decision to change the lyrics of “Me and Mrs. Jones.” Asia’h Epperson muddled through “All By Myself” by the now largely forgotten Eric Carmen. Ramiele Malubay’s version of “Don’t Treat Me This Way” was okay
None of the performances was as good as David Archuleta’s rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine.” He remains the one to beat.
