Via Drudge Report Hillary Clinton’s willingness to say or do anything to get the Democratic nomination is simply breathtaking. Take the photo of Barack Obama dressed in traditional African garb that somehow wound up on the Drudge Report today. The timing of its release one day before the last debate and less than a week before the important Ohio and Texas primaries is suspicious.
Let me be the billionth blogger to say that Obama is not now nor has ever been a Muslim — not there is anything wrong with that. Yes, hundreds of thousands of chat board clowns keep falsely claiming that he’s a secret Muslim. This debate has grown tiresome. But whatever staffer released this picture is hoping to tap into the unease among some voters in backing candidate whose middle name happens to be Hussein as in Saddam. It’s despicable.
The response from Clinton campaign manager Maggie Williams was unbelievably cynical: “If Barack Obama’s campaign wants to suggest that a photo of him wearing traditional Somali clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed.” Come again? Does Hillary’s good pal think that the American public is as dumb as a rock?
But the weirdest response to the photos came from the always charitable Matt Drudge. He showed a photo gallery of politicians wearing local garb during overseas trips including Hillary Clinton and President George Bush. The point is well taken.
Thank God the final Democratic debate is tomorrow. I don’t know how much more of this nonsense people can take.
